This is partial examination of only the left colon and rectum, specifically performed to treat and diagnose distal colonic or rectal diseases. Sometimes, hemorrhoidal treatment requires a sigmoid examination as well. Although only the left colon is examined, patients are asked to take a complete bowel cleanse for proper visualization of the entire extent of examined colon.
